As the company comes of age some key decisions by the Board of Directors are being implemented to take the company to the next level. The changes are targeted at achieving the company’s strategic objectives by increasing the overall operational efficiency, fostering innovation and increasing profitability.
The company will seek to fortify its operations through a three-pronged strategy that focuses on:
• enhancing technical skills through specialized training
• growing the operational capital base
• acquisition of IT systems, professional tools and test gear; the company has acquired brand new communications equipment including BGAN satellite terminals that field engineers use to access the Internet from remote locations, satellite phones, and corporate plan mobile phone packages. Other high end equipment acquired includes spectrum analyzers, BERT meters and laser distance meters. Alongside this, our fleet of Mitsubishi 4x4 double cabin trucks is now due for replacement and management has already secured funding and Board authorization to replenish the fleet with brand new vehicles in the next 6 months.
By aggressively pursuing this strategy, the department expects to greatly improve the three functional areas in its core operations, i.e. Project planning, Project implementation and Technical Support.
In project planning the company has mainly focused on RF design for major transmission/broadcast projects, needs assessment for ICT rollouts, multi-vendor systems integration and process re-engineering among others.
Data Fundi has been sourced to implement high value projects in Microwave backbone transmission, GSM base station installations, Broadcasting, Optical fibre backbone transmission, VSAT-based wide area networks and telecom operator contract management.
Our performance has been outstandin, thanks in part to the unwavering support of partners that Data Fundi has attracted over the years. Management has in the last year allied with over half a dozen new partners in areas of ICT equipment manufacturing, civil works contracting, material supplies and financial services.
In the next 12 months, we shall build the supply chain management functions into the company’s automated ERP system to improve the interface between the company and its suppliers.
At Data Fundi, we have built one of the most powerful skills base in the industry and this argument is borne out of our ineffaceable trail of successes including some of the most exigent projects accomplished in the region. We also believe that a fundi is only as good as his worst tool and that is why at Data Fundi, we have spared no expense in building a behemoth of systems to support our complex project portfolio. The corporate support systems include an ever evolving complex matrix of server-based applications accessed via a local area network with secure WiFi access for visiting consultants. A 2Mbps dedicated satellite internet connection provides the engineering department with moderate capacity for research and development. A secure VPN allows field engineers to access corporate services at Data Fundi headquarters from remote locations via BGAN satellite terminals. Every employee has access to a dedicated computer and for field staff, laptops are provided.
In the next 12 months, management has been mandated to improve the corporate support systems by upgrading the corporate website into an interactive dynamic portal. The portal will feature secure pages providing customers with current project information. The portal will also feature interfaces for suppliers and contractors to facilitate real time interaction with our engineering, finance and admin departments which will in turn support critical processes in procurement, credit control and quality assurance among others.
Project implementation as a key functional area in our core operations will see improvements in project financing, support systems, equipment and instrumentation. We shall also engage in upgrading our recruitment, training and quality assurance processes. For the last two years the company has been studying and testing various project financing models. We are glad to report that management is now in advanced stages of implementing a highly competitive project financing strategy that will help the company deliver complex projects efficiently, seamlessly and at very competitive rates. Today, in co-operation with financing partners, Data Fundi has the capability to pre-finance multiple projects simultaneously and deliver a high quality service in record time at an affordable budget. This has created several repeat customers and great references for new markets that we continue to capture as we support our massive growth strategy. As we continue to expand, we shall in the next two years recruit and train key personnel in marketing, engineering and operations, finance and administration.
